Dr. Kim Wilbanks- JPS Superintendent
Dr. Kim Wilbanks serves as the district's superintendent. During her 8 year tenure with the district, she has provided the vision and guidance to allow JPS to develop and implement the magnet school concept at the elementary level. In addition, she had led Jonesboro High School in its recently successful efforts to gain Charter School Status beginning in the 2013-2014 school year. Under charter status, Jonesboro High School will implement three distinctive academic academies focusing on Sciences, Math, Technology, and Engineering, Business, Media, and Health, and Human Services. The charter's waivers will allow JHS to provide students with opportunities to participate in real workplace internships and receive mentoring from area business personnel. Dr. Wilbanks had led the district in fully implementing Professional Learning Communities at every JPS campus over the last several years. PLCs provide teachers and staff the opportunities to collaborate in a professional atmosphere with their peers. Under Dr. Wilbanks' guidance, the district has served as a pilot for the new TESS program (Teacher Evaluation Program). Under her leadership, the district has completed major construction projects including the addition of a new district Center for the Performing Arts, rennovation of the Don Riggs Hurricane gymnasium, additions and improvements to the Jonesboro Kindergarten Center, International Studies campus, Annie Camp and MacArthur Jr. High campuses. and Health, Wellness, and Environmental Studies campus. One of the greatest accomplishments of the district has been the passage of a recent millage enabling the district to continue to expand and meet the needs of its students.

Your child has been issued a student handbook for the upcoming year as required by the State of Arkansas. The handbook contains information about the rules, regulations and policies of the school district. While it is impossible to list in the handbook all of the rules and guidelines for student and staff use, we believe the contents of this handbook will help serve as a guide and define rules and regulations as required by federal and state laws. We therefore ask that you read this handbook carefully and indicate that you have done so by signing and returning the signature page that is included in this handbook.
On behalf of the Superintendent’s office, thank you for placing your trust in the Jonesboro School District.
